Four timing lenses

A verdict is stronger when the evidence agrees.

No single indicator can call every turn. Read trend, momentum, participation, and sentiment together — and pay attention when they disagree.

01 / Trend

Is the market’s path rising or falling?

Start with the slow signal. Price above its 200-day moving average often points to a healthier long-term trend; below it can signal deterioration.

Golden cross
The 50-day average moves above the 200-day average.
Death cross
The 50-day average moves below the 200-day average.
02 / Momentum

How stretched is the move?

The 14-day RSI measures the speed and persistence of recent price changes on a 0–100 scale.

Above 70
Commonly read as overbought — strong, but potentially stretched.
Below 30
Commonly read as oversold — weak, but potentially due for relief.
03 / Participation

How much of the market is joining?

Market breadth asks whether gains are broad or carried by only a few large stocks. A rally with wider participation is generally more convincing.

Broad advance
More stocks advancing or holding above their own trend lines.
Narrow advance
The index rises while fewer constituents participate.
04 / Sentiment

What is the crowd already expecting?

Fear-and-greed measures are often read contrarily. Extreme optimism can mean risk is underpriced; extreme fear can create opportunity.

Extreme greed
A cue to check concentration, valuation, and downside risk.
Extreme fear
A cue to look for stabilization — not proof that a bottom is in.
How to combine them:

A bullish trend with healthy breadth and non-extreme momentum is a different setup from a bullish trend carried by a handful of names with overheated sentiment. Agreement adds confidence; divergence calls for caution.

Quick answers

Before you act.

Keep the signal in proportion to your time horizon, risk tolerance, and financial plan.

What does the BUY / SELL gauge measure?

TradingView’s technical analysis widget summarizes a set of moving-average and oscillator readings for SPY on the daily interval. It may show Strong Sell, Sell, Neutral, Buy, or Strong Buy as conditions change.

Does the verdict predict tomorrow’s return?

No. Technical indicators describe recent market behavior; they do not guarantee what happens next. Signals can reverse quickly, arrive late, or stay extreme for long periods.

Why use SPY instead of the S&P 500 index?

SPY is a widely traded exchange-traded fund designed to track the S&P 500. Its live market data makes it a practical proxy for monitoring the index.

How often does this page update?

The widgets load current TradingView data when the page is open. Exchange or data-provider delays may apply. The technical verdict is configured for the daily interval, so intraday price moves may not change the broader daily signal immediately.
